I like mylocalservices.us too aside from mine of course but after having done a little research on the site, I figured that they have a .co.uk site that uses exactly the same template, thereby rendering the US version less unique. It looks like a copy of the other site except for the extension. No offense meant...just an observation. That's why my vote goes for mine www.linkernel.comCheers!

... and the use of color is good, soothing to the eye! color is good LOL I thought directory is all about content, substance, site owners and visitors friendliness and usefulness. Silly me. My vote is for AMRAY the Directory that possesses all those attributes.

Very interesting post in DP forum http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=1715615&s=eef46cee2e5eb9d378e52c1f9c0e96d1Technically we call them "web directories" because they list URL to web sites so people know where to find those sites and to visit them. Without link to web site, we can't have backlinks thus PR and visitors. Imagine Google without links to web sites. AMRAY Web Directory is exactly what it says " web directory" and because mylocalservices.us doesn't provide links to web sites it's nothing more than " web catalog" known as Yellow Pages. If you understand the difference between these two classifications, then you would vote for " web directory" and that is what I'm doing, voting for WEB DIRECTORY fastreplies

Hi, my vote goes for www.blogaboutmysite.com/ , i like the overall design, and the site is well laid out, with proper listings, not a directory pro, but mylocalservices.us - as fastreplies says this does seem like YPages, and what its doing in the list of "web directories" is beyond comprehension! @fastreplies - how can u have listings for Crackz & Hackz and call your directory quality? You forgot to mention Adult, Gambling, Pharmacies & Drug Stores Categories not to mention you forgot that Yahoo and DMOZ has the same Categories. We are not in censorship business and as long as those subjects are legal, we don't care what some morality freaks are thinking about our Categories choices. If you wanna talk about "quality" then lets talk about 4 backlinks from 4 designated pages AMRAY gives to indexed sites. That is 4 directly to web site Search Engines Friendly backlinks all of which has been cached by Google and Yahoo. How many backlinks your directory gives to sites listed in your Index? fastreplies

but i think overall http://www.mylocalservices.us would get my vote as its a more useful service IMHO, and the use of color is good, soothing to the eye! Sanjeev Thanks Sanjeev, appreciated I like mylocalservices.us too aside from mine of course but after having done a little research on the site, I figured that they have a .co.uk site that uses exactly the same template, thereby rendering the US version less unique. It looks like a copy of the other site except for the extension. No offense meant...just an observation. No offense taken at all The UK site is an established commercial site with paid listings. The US site only launched last August, so we will keep it free until the traffic ramps up. The databases and all listings are country specific. Branding wise, we wanted to give it the same and look and feel of the UK site, and also our forums.
Technically we call them "web directories" because they list URL to web sites so people know where to find those sites and to visit them.
Without link to web site, we can't have backlinks thus PR and visitors. Imagine Google without links to web sites.

Hello Fastreplies, good definition of a web directory, but My Local Services is a Business Directory. It has plenty of web links back, simply look on the home page and look at the recent sign ups. The original database contains basic listings, ie without weblinks, but anyone signing up has the option to have a quick basic listing, or a full listing, giving SEO freindly weblinks, as well a dedicated page of advertising. Web directories tend to be script generated lists of weblinks, a lot aren't even categorised and fall into the link farm group. Business directories aspire to actually become useful resources, generating high numbers of visitors and traffic for their listings, as well as providing valuable web links back. The US site has a long way to go in terms of visitor numbers, which is why don't charge people to list their businesses, unlike a lot of basic web directories, but still offers customer support and 24 hour approvals.
